That ‘personal touch’ level of commitment to the customer is what Fone Trading Zone was founded on by owners Gerard and Clayre Doherty in 2002.
By combining the highest levels of experience with unrivalled standards of customer care, they assembled a mobile communications team which understands both the technology and the needs of those who run businesses and other organisations.
First O2 franchise in Northern Ireland
Since opening their first independent mobile phone store in the village of Claudy, Gerard and Clayre have built a nationwide business of loyal customers.
Realising the potential for growth in the industry and the ability to give customers a wider range of the latest mobile technology on the market, the husband and wife team decided to partner with O2.
In 2006 FTZ became the first O2 franchise in Northern Ireland.
FTZ opened a second O2 Northern Ireland mobile phone store at Laharna Retail Park in Larne in December 2007.
The company formed a partnership with O2 Ireland (now ‘3’) in 2008 and opened a further eight stores to cover the upper half of Ireland. FTZ currently operates ‘3’ mobile stores in Dundalk (2), Drogheda, Galway, Cavan, Longford, Trim and Donegal.
MEET THE TEAM
Gerard’s expert knowledge and extensive experience of the mobile telecommunication industry coupled with his authentic leadership style has resulted in the huge success of Fone Trading Zone. Gerard and his wife, Clayre now employ more than 100 staff between the North and South of Ireland and have ambitious plans to grow the business even further.
Clayre, alongside husband Gerard, has been integral in the success of building and growing the business from an independent local store to having multiple national stores. Together their vision and values have created a customer centric culture whilst also focussing on people development and engagement.
Dermot began his career with FTZ as a Sales Advisor in the Spencer Road Store before progressing to Assistant Store Manager. In 2015 he was integral in the set-up of the franchise contact centre and continues to lead and manage this growing team as part of his role as Operations Manager. He’s now responsible for managing and improving the day-to-day operational processes within the business both in NI and ROI.
Grace began her career with FTZ in 2009 as a Store Manager in Cavan and quickly progressed to the role of Area Manager. Her previous experience in the industry ensured the successful and speedy integration of multiple store acquisitions. Grace currently leads and inspires a headcount of 50 staff, ensuring that sales performance is optimised whilst compliance and customer service are also paramount.
Jen began her career in the mobile telecommunications industry with O2 in 2007 and following an acquisition by FTZ she came on board as a Store Manager in Longford. Jen was quickly promoted to Area Manager in 2015 and was integral in the success of multiple acquisitions. Jen now leads and develops a team of 50 Sales Advisors and Store Managers who puts the customer at the heart of what we do whilst consistently delivering against targets.
Learning and Development Manager
Ben worked with many of the major players in the industry before joining FTZ in 2014. He quickly progressed from part time Sales Advisor to Store Manager in Galway before being promoted to his current role. Ben is responsible for designing and delivering quality training programmes, including Inductions and Management Development. His wealth of experience, inspiration and creativity ensures highly skilled staff at all levels of the company.
Glynis began her career with FTZ in 2010 as an administrator providing finance and payroll support to the directors. Since then the company has grown significantly and Glynis has become a crucial member of the management team. She ensures the efficient and effective running of general administration and financial reporting.
Business Development Manager
Karen has worked in the mobile phone industry for nearly 20 years, specialising in the B2B market for the last 14 years. Karen has been integral in developing the SME business since she joined FTZ in 2010. She provides a wealth of experience to the FTZ Business Centre and is responsible for the long term retention of key accounts and in developing new business acquisitions through networking in the local community. She has built a strong reputation in the local area for being a trusted and dedicated account manager.
Business Development Manager
Beverley started her career in the business to business mobile industry in 2005, developing strong relationships in the SME market. The FTZ Business Centre team was launched in October 2017 and Beverley joined in 2018 to further strengthen the team and provide expertise. Beverley is responsible for developing and delivering new acquisition business opportunities through targeted marketing activities and prospect to sale management, selling the full range of O2 solutions and services.
Business Development Manager
David joined FTZ in October 2017 when the Business Centre was launched. David brought with him vast experience of the market from local competitors and hit the ground running. He’s responsible for developing the B2B account, building relationships in the community and providing excellent customer service to existing customers.
